Film Media Opens 4K Film Scanning and Color Grading Facility in Fair Lawn, NJ

Jan 2, 2019 – Film preservation organization Film Media announced the opening of its 4k film scanning and color grading facility in Fair Lawn NJ. The news comes on the tail of a successful late November 2018 soft-launch following the acquisition of a ScanStation 4k film scanner featuring built-in 2D image stabilization and warped film gates and DaVinci Resolve color grading system.

Established in 2016 to preserve and restore outstanding independent cinema shot on motion picture film, Film Media’s mission has expanded to include a commercial facility with state-of-the-art equipment providing film scanning, media digitization and color grading services to film shooters, archives and media content specialists alike. A commercial rate card and additional information on the full suite of services listed below can be found at FilmMedia.org

The driving force behind the expansion is Film Media owner Michael Raso, a dedicated film shooter and archive owner with an extensive background in film and digital media production and distribution. On board as Director is home entertainment executive Paige Davis, with Dave Northrop – whose previous clients include HBO, National Geographic, Getty Images, Florentine Films / Ken Burns and Criterion Collection (to name a few) - on board as Digital Colorist.

Michael Raso commented,

“I’m a committed film shooter who is passionate about rescuing aging motion picture film stock and preserving the images it contains. Whether Super 8, 16mm or 35mm, film is my preferred aesthetic – I firmly believe it to be the greatest artistic medium of the 20th century and remains the best method of recording images. By building Film Media out into a fully-fledged film scanning and media digitization facility, we can better support contemporary film shooter, archives and home entertainment labels who share our mission to preserve and restore our rich heritage of motion picture and photographic film.”
