FILM MEDIA RESTORES 1997 INDIE DRAMA
WHERE THE AIR IS COOL AND DARK

Addiction Saga set in the Pacific Northwest gets HD Treatment

September 14, 2017 Fairlawn, NJ – Film Media announced today it has completed restoration on the 1997 Indie Drama, Where the Air is Cool and Dark. A visually sumptuous and critically acclaimed account of drug addiction and recovery set in the 1990s Pacific Northwest, Where the Air is Cool and Dark, directed and produced by Brion Rockwell at the tail end of the 1990s Indie Film Boom – which carried films like Drugstore Cowboy and My Own Private Idaho to theaters across the nation and forever branded Portland and Seattle as meccas of a growing nationwide drug culture - was praised by the Anchorage Daily News at its release as portraying a “dark, introspective world of desperation and drug-induced escapism.” With the United States opiate epidemic reaching unprecedented heights, Where the Air is Cool and Dark remains as relevant in 2017, if not more so, than at its initial release.

Synopsis
Showcasing vast stretches of the lush Pacific Northwest rain-forest, Where the Air is Cool and Dark is a meditative glimpse into one man’s quest for redemption in “a world of desperation and drug-induced escapism.” *

Clean and sober, Emmett LeClere leaves NYC film school and returns home to the Olympic Peninsula to shoot a film about the endangered rain-forest. But when he runs out of funding, Emmett takes a gig as care-taker of his friend’s marijuana farm, and rekindles a relationship with a fellow addict and an ex-girlfriend. As his self-destructive ways threaten to destroy his goals, Emmet learns the Feds are closing in.

Featuring music by Seattle’s The Walkabouts.

Film Media has scheduled the 2k HD restoration of Where the Air is Cool and Dark for exclusive premiere on Amazon Video .

Critical Praise for Where the Air is Cool and Dark

“a somber indie production with ambitious elements (actual footage of loggers at work; scenes shot from a rescue helicopter…) (that) benefits from a decent rock soundtrack and convincing performances from its young cast” – sexgoremutants.co.uk

“One of the most ambitious independent films around” - Anchorage Daily News

“(Director) Rockwell brings this world vividly to life” - Seattle News Tribune

“Drugstore Cowboy meets Five Easy Pieces...Independent Moviemaking at its best!” - Alternative Cinema
